What is Passport?

Passport is a digital identity for researchers that streamlines access to controlled biomedical datasets.

Passport implements authorization and identity standards from the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) that enable next generation data sharing policies for verifying researcher attributes from multiple identities.

What does it do?

In particular, Passport fulfills these important functions:

  1. Authenticate users via supported identity providers
  2. Link accounts for the same user into one
  3. Attach attributes to user identities following international standards, enabling distributed access control

Passport is the identity management system of choice for the DNAstack Explorer and Publisher products. To use Explorer or Publisher, you will need to log in with a Passport account.
